After all, the Mets fell way short of expectations this season, and as a result of their early-season struggles that they weren’t able to overcome, they fired manager Carlos Mendoza — with Andy Green stepping into the interim role from the 26th of June until the end of the season.While Green has certainly impressed in his short time with the Mets (the team has gone 35-35 with him at the helm, which is a huge improvement over where they were to begin the season), it looks like he won’t be among those who will be in consideration for the full-time managerial role for next season. In fact, Green is rumored to be in the running for an executive role in the Mets front office.With that development, the Mets have to cast a wide net in search of the manager whom they hope will be able to maximize the talent the team has at its disposal. To that end, someone like former Chicago Cubs manager David Ross could end up getting the job, with Ross at least expressing his willingness to at least hear out a potential proposal from the team.Watch sports LIVE with fuboTV (free trial)“I’ll answer the phone,” Ross said in an appearance on ESPN, per Jon Heyman of the New York Post.It helps as well that Green was Ross’ bench coach during their time together on the Cubs, so perhaps Green could put in a nice word in behalf of the Mets if New York were indeed to express interest in the 49-year-old.Ross, of course, experienced an unceremonious exit with the Cubs, with Chicago replacing him suddenly with Craig Counsell following the 2023 season.
