​Green Bay Preble is looking for a new baseball coach.Clint Petasek is out after five seasons, and much like the school’s situation this spring with former boys basketball coach Rick Rosinski, it might not have been his choice whether to return for a sixth year.Preble athletic director Tim Flood was asked why the school decided to go in another direction with the baseball program and the timetable in which he hopes to find a replacement.“Coach Petasek resigned from his position,” Flood said in an email. “We have started the process of searching for a new coach.”Flood was told there are people who said Petasek wanted to return. He was asked if this was completely Petasek’s decision to leave.  “We received an email from him resigning from the position,” Flood said.Preble also received a resignation from Rosinski in May, but after the longtime area coach rescinded it four days later, it became clear he wasn’t given a choice and that the school planned to replace him whether he stepped down or not.Rosinski is now the Shawano boys basketball coach after being hired by the school earlier this month.Many supporters who spoke out on behalf of Rosinski in the months after he was let go by the school said the dismissal was because of an overzealous parent.It’s possible that type of situation occurred again on the baseball side.Petasek, who has been a teacher in the Green Bay Public School District for more than two decades and was a 2026 Golden Apple Award nominee for his work at Red Smith School, did not respond to a text message.He had the difficult task of replacing former coach Andy Conard at Preble in 2022 after the best run in program history.Conard coached the Hornets for six seasons and seven years overall, with the 2020 campaign wiped out because of the COVID-19 pandemic.He led Preble to a dominating 132-34 record during that span. His tenure included four trips to the WIAA state tournament and at least a share of four Fox River Classic Conference championships.Petasek was a natural choice to replace Conard. He was part of Conard’s staff at Preble for several years and was a standout infielder for the Hornets in the 1990s.He was one of two Preble players, along with Tim Reichwald, to be first-team all-conference selections in the Fox River Valley as seniors in 1996. It came one year after Petasek made second team.Petasek went a combined 67-55 in his five seasons as coach, leading Preble to a pair of runner-up finishes in the FRCC.The Hornets went 13-9 this season and finished tied with De Pere for fourth in the 10-team league. They lost 4-0 to Appleton North in a D1 regional opener in June.The new coach will have some talent to work with next season.Preble must replace Petasek’s son, David, who was one of the top infielders in the league as a senior.But it will have one of the best pitchers in the area back in senior left-hander Will VanBoxel and a top outfielder in fellow senior Harrison Selk.VanBoxel went 5-3 with a 2.12
