The 32-year-old sustained a thigh injury while playing for his new club, Inter Milan, earlier this week.The center-back is unlikely to feature in Thomas Tuchel’s squad, which will be announced at 10am BST (5am ET) on Friday. Stones started three of England’s eight games at the FIFA World Cup, including their quarter-final victory against Norway and semi-final loss to Argentina, before sitting out the third-place playoff win over France.Released by Manchester City in June, the former Everton defender subsequently made his first career move abroad. Inter confirmed, as per The Mirror: “John Stones underwent clinical and diagnostic tests this morning at the Istituto Humanitas in Rozzano.”The tests revealed a muscle strain to the flexor muscles in his left thigh. His condition will be reassessed over the coming days.”Reports suggest Inter are hopeful of having Stones available when they host Parma in Serie A on October 10. Their next fixture is an away trip to AS Roma this Saturday, with both clubs having collected maximum points from their opening four matches.Tuchel, meanwhile, will be forced to call up an alternative in Stones’ absence. They’ll then face Czechia once more at Wembley to wrap up the extended international window.For their final two group games in November, they’ll host Croatia before making the trip to Spain. A top-two finish would secure their place in the knockout stage in March, while third place would leave them at risk of relegation to League B through the play-offs. Should England finish fourth, they will be automatically relegated.
