Led by medalist Holly Clapp’s 76, the Terre Haute South girls high school golf team won its fifth consecutive sectional title Thursday at Forest Park.Going into the tournament, South coach Cara Stuckey said she told her team to limit their scores of eight or higher … and the Braves followed her advice to a tee.”I had a lot of open chances to win, so I took them all,” said Clapp, a senior who shot an 18-hole score of 76. “Even on the last hole, I had a chance at birdie. So I took it and I made it.”Going into next Friday regional at Hulman Links, Clapp said she’s hoping this gives her enough confidence to make it out, either as a team or individually, and qualify for the state finals.”It’s a lot more comforting, I guess,” Clapp said of the regional taking place close to home this year.Stuckey described Clapp as the perfect leader.”She hits it out of bounds on 17 after a good shot, just got a bad break, but then comes back and birdies 18,” Clapp noted.Stuckey said she loves that the regional will be at Hulman Links.”It’s good for our community to get teams from all over to come in and showcase one of our golf courses,” she told the Tribune-Star.While the Braves’ winning ways continued, history was made when West Vigo advanced to the regional for the first time in school history. Previously, the best the Vikings had finished in the sectional was fourth in 2000.West Vigo coach Jordan Pearson said the accomplishment is a testament to the team’s hard work.”The girls show up every day and just get better each day and it’s just work ethic,” he explained after the Vikings fired a 375, 29 strokes behind South’s 346.The other Wabash Valley team to advance to the regional was Northview (378), with coach Graham Stultz saying the team is super happy to continue its season. He said the goal was to make a run at it for first and at least finish in the top three.”Happy that we get to continue our season for another week,” Stultz said.Stultz said the Knights have been led all season by senior Kailee James.”She’s just done a great job leading the team,” Stultz said.Team scores — Terre Haute South 346, West Vigo 375, Northview 378, South Vermillion 384, Clay City 394, Terre Haute North 441, South Putnam 442, Parke Heritage 455, Greencastle 479, North Central 488, Riverton Parke 497, Cloverdale and Monrovia incomplete.Individuals advancing outside of teams — Shaylee Wallace (South Vermillion) 91, Jacey Call (Greencastle) 94, Ashley Wallace (Clay City) 96.Terre Haute South (346) — Holly Clapp 76, Raegan Roscoe 88, Kora Dunivan 90, Maddyn Hutchins 92, Zoe Miller 96.West Vigo (375) — Briley Wolfe 83, Paisley Sereno 91, Grace All 96, Sydney Auten 105, Maddy Robinson 116.Northview (378) — Kailee James 85, Savannah Bays 95, Emmalee Hill 96, Aubrey Tegtmeyer 102, Maylee Langley 107.South Vermillion (384) — Shaylee Wallace 91, Jaci McLain 96, Bailey Dowdy 98, Madison Lund 99, Alicia Guinn 111.Clay City (394) — Ashley Harrison 96, Emma Gibbs 97, Elsie Schopmeye
