Stein’s first full recruiting class also includes four-star quarterback Jake Nawrot, who committed to the Wildcats in April after choosing Kentucky over a group that included Oregon, Iowa, and Kansas State. Nawrot was one of the highest-rated quarterback commitments in Kentucky football history at the time of his commitment.Now, Stein and offensive coordinator Joe Sloan are looking to establish another strong quarterback relationship for the future.Kentucky has made the top three for 2028 four-star quarterback Josiah Boyd, according to Adam Gorney of Rivals. The Wildcats join Oregon and UCLA as Boyd’s finalists.Boyd is a 6-foot-3, 165-pound quarterback from Vista Del Lago High School in Moreno Valley, California. The 247 Sports Composite currently ranks him No. 81 nationally, No. 7 among quarterbacks and No. 2 in California.Boyd already has a relationship with Kentucky’s coaching staff after previously visiting Lexington. His time with Stein and Sloan included breaking down game film, giving the Wildcats an opportunity to showcase how they could develop him at the next level.That relationship will have another opportunity to grow later this year, as Boyd is expected to return to Lexington when Kentucky hosts LSU.The early attention toward Boyd is significant because Kentucky does not yet have a commitment in the 2028 class. After landing Nawrot early in the 2027 cycle, the Wildcats are once again attempting to establish themselves with a highly regarded quarterback before the recruiting process reaches its later stages.Kentucky will have competition for Boyd, however. Oregon and UCLA both remain in the picture, since Boyd is from out West, it will be a challenge for Stein, but as long as he continues to build the relationship with Boyd and showing him what Kentucky can offer as he gets closer to making a college decision.With another visit to Lexington coming later this season, the Wildcats will have another opportunity to make their case to one of the top quarterbacks in the 2028 class.View Link
