​BOONVILLE — Lightning delayed the first meeting between Castle and Boonville since 2002. It’s three wins in a row for Castle since losing by one point to Mater Dei in Week 2.“(Friday) was fast and physical,” Castle coach Doug Hurt said. “We were particularly relentless on the defensive side of the ball early and held that consistency. Just glad to win this revitalized Warrick County Classic.”The win now puts the Knights ahead, 26-18, in the overall series with Boonville.Castle sets the toneAn opening-play touchdown set the tone for Castle. Junior quarterback Sawyer Winsett found junior wide receiver Jaivon Aunspach, who got behind the Pioneers secondary. The two have connected several times this season.Boonville did have a response. A funky play that saw Boonville’s Bradyn Egli catch a pass, fumble the ball and recover it led to a big gain for the senior wideout. Senior running back Mason Jones finished the drive on a trick play as he found his receiver Dawson Keller in the end zone.Both teams missed their extra points to make it 6-6. There would be more special teams miscues as the game went on.Keller’s score would be the only points from Boonville on the night. Castle shut the door after that.What has allowed the Pioneers offense to be successful this season is Jones’ contributions in the running game, especially with Seiler’s acclimation process. But the Knights defense was swarming, allowing little to no lanes for Jones and others to pursue. A couple of injuries certainly affected the Pioneers (Tripp Kelly and Landon Boyer, notably). It led to some changes in personnel that was too much to overcome in Week 5.“They took away our run game and forced us to put the ball in the air,” Batts said. “(Hurt’s) guys were ready to play, ours weren’t.”While the Pioneers defense shut out Castle in the third quarter, they were unable to capitalize with the offensive possessions necessary to claw their way back into the game.Ba
