Obviously, improving the roster is the priority. But before team president David Stearns does that, he must find a new manager. After firing Carlos Mendoza in June, his replacement, Andy Green, has done a solid job. However, despite some around the club feeling he should get the full-time role, Green has made it clear multiple times that he wants to return to his desk in the team’s front office after the season.Since Mendoza’s ouster, the names most often linked to the skipper job are former Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora, Mets legend and new Hall of Famer Beltran, and St. Louis Cardinals icon Albert Pujols. However, of the three, Beltran is probably the popular choice among many fans of the team. Yet, it seems like the 49-year-old doesn’t really want the job.Carlos Beltran doesn’t want the NY Mets manager job?Carlos Beltrán was asked if he is interested in becoming the Mets’ manager:”Being a manager in Major League Baseball is a huge commitment, very huge commitment. I’m not saying that I’m not willing to take that commitment, but right now, at the position where I am today in life,… pic.twitter.com/oyi4PPzCwb— SNY Mets (@SNY_Mets) September 19, 2026During a press conference before the team retires his No. 19 jersey, Beltran revealed that at this point in his life, he really enjoys his special assistant role in the Mets front office, as well as the time it allows him to be a father, a husband, and to run his baseball academy in Puerto Rico. Although he would not completely rule out taking the job, he admitted it is a big commitment, and it would cut into the time he puts into those aforementioned passions away from the ballpark. What makes Beltran’s comments so surprising is that he was previously hired to be the Mets manager back in 2019. However, he stepped down from the role not long after taking it due to his links to the infamous Houston Astros sign-stealing scandal at the time. There are big pluses in Stearns making Beltran the team’s next skipper. He would obviously have a lot of respect in the clubhouse for what he did on the field. However, as a man who has been a member of the organization for several years, he has worked with all the key decision-makers already. Plus, after overhauling the coaching staff in the winter, hiring Beltran likely means most of those hires will be retained.Related HeadlinesTop MLB Insider Adds Fuel to NY Mets-Albert Pujols Next Manager BuzzNY Yankees Get CLEAR Message With Aaron Judge’s Latest Injury: Permanent Move To DH/1B MUST Happen in 2027Evaluating the State of the NL Wild Card, Heading Into the Final Week of the Regular SeasonRead more at Sportsnaut
