During the first four days, 633 horses went through the auction ring for a total purchase price of $318,115,000. As dreams of the Kentucky Derby and Triple Crown race glory danced through the minds of many, wallets were opened and money flew like a winning race horse down the stretch. Of the horses sold, 65 brought $1 million or more, a new Keenland Sales record, with the highest price being a colt by Into Mischief that went for a whopping $3.7 million.Taylor Made Sales Continues To Be A Leader In Thoroughbred Racing Game The leading consignor during week one was the Taylor Made Sales Agency. Having been a part of the Keeneland Sales since 1978, the list of Thoroughbred champions touched by Taylor Made in one form or another is quite impressive. Since 1980, the operation spearheaded by four brothers (Duncan, Ben, Mark, and Frank) has been the leading consignor at the Yearling Sale a remarkable 26 times. You forget about birthdays, anniversaries, and other commitments because your life revolves around your race horse.” Taylor Made Sales Agency was responsible for the sale of 92 yearlings during this first week which generated $46,545,000. The Yearling Sale will continue through September 26. As the Sale moves forward prices paid will drop as the first week of the event carries those yearlings that are considered to be more valuable and from better breeding. The strength of those early sales demonstrated there is a good market for these high potential horses. “I think we have a trifecta of reasons for this strong market”, says Frank Taylor. “First of all, we have a smaller foal crop so the supply is down, but the demand for quality bred horses is very high. Also, the race purses have gone up quite a bit so the opportunity for on-track earnings has greatly increased.
