If the Mets do what’s needed at the deadline, which would require them to move on from multiple players, the Cubs can benefit from that. However, David Stearns, the Mets’ president of baseball operations, recently spoke about what he plans to do with this year’s deadline, and it doesn’t exactly sound like his plan is to move on from a lot of his guys, at least in the immediate term.“We’re going to continue to give this team time to prove that we can get back in this in a very legitimate sense,” Stearns said, per ESPN. “…The cut-off is Aug. 3. The cut-off is the deadline, and clearly, you have to have a strategic direction at that point. We can prepare along parallel paths as we go through this, and we know we have to play better than what we’ve played right now, and we’re going to give this team a chance to do that.”It’s unfortunate to hear Stearns come out and say this for a few different reasons, but the biggest one is because the Cubs probably need to add a starter or two over the next few weeks, not just right before the deadline.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAs of now, however, it doesn’t seem like that will happen in the form of trading for a starter in New York.Mets’ David Stearns doubles down on trade deadline plansCubs’ Jed Hoyer hints teams not wanting trade before MLB trade deadlineTwins’ Byron Buxton news is worst possible outcome for BravesMLB All-Star Game voting picks and predictionsLatest Garrett Crochet report shows Red Sox must make this move      Read More Feedzy
