​STILLWATER — KD Jones’ college career couldn’t have started any better. Jones lined up beside Oklahoma State quarterback Broderick Vehrs in the shotgun, took a handoff through a gap in the right side of the line and bowled over Murray State safety Brooks Esplin for a 6-yard touchdown. He kept his legs churning even after he’d crossed the goal line.The score came with 12:47 remaining in the fourth quarter in OSU’s 59-0 rout, but it was a significant moment for Jones. It was the first carry of his collegiate career. Jones, a freshman from Jenks High School, was the top-ranked player in OSU’s 2026 high school recruiting class, No. 4 ranked player in Oklahoma and The Oklahoman’s All-State Offensive Player of the Year last fall.After waiting two games to touch the ball, Jones carried the ball seven times for 54 yards, including a long of 25 yards on Saturday. Pro Football Focus graded him as the top performing Cowboy against Murray State. OSU coach Eric Morris said in practice last Thursday OSU’s young players did a drill where they had four downs to score a touchdown from the 10-yard line. No passing plays were allowed. In the scrimmage, Jones received all four carries and scored on the fourth one. Saturday, he got to score for real.“It was just cool to see, like, that kinda came true for him today,” Morris said. “I mean, he hit it. He was running behind his pads today and, obviously, that’s a moment he’ll remember for the rest of his life, getting his first touchdown in Boone Pickens. And somebody that didn’t get a ton of reps with the offense this week. But I think that was awesome that that was a spot that he was in.
