INDIANAPOLIS — There were no discussions between the Indiana Fever coaching staff and veteran guards Lexie Hull and Sophie Cunningham after both played fewer than 13 minutes in Sunday’s blowout loss to the Washington Mystics.Hull told IndyStar she’s been in the league long enough to know minutes are going to fluctuate and it’s on the players to stay ready.”Not really,” Cunningham told IndyStar in a separate interview. “But I think that’s what it is to be a pro: You just have to show up regardless of what they have in mind, what happens outside of your control and that’s OK. I think for us right now, it’s moving forward. It’s going out there and trying to get our rhythm and chemistry and our confidence back against a really, really good Minnesota team.”Hull played just 12:48 against the Mystics, checked out midway through the first quarter and did not return until late in the third. She finished with two points on 1-of-3 shooting (0 for 1 from 3), two rebounds and a steal.Cunningham missed two 3-pointers and finished with zero points in 7:09. She finished out the first quarter, but did not re-enter until the 6:32 mark of the fourth quarter.Buy Caitlin Clark merch!Fever coach Stephanie White said Sunday they need to get Cunningham and Hull the ball in positions where they can “get good shots and make shots.””And they’ve got to help on the defensive end and with rebounding the basketball,” White said. “It’s not necessarily one or the other, but at the same time, we need shot-making and part of that is how and where we’re getting the ball for sure. We’ve missed a lot of opportunities to get them shots and then on the other end, defense and rebounding.” Hull’s minutes have fluctuated this season, ranging from a season-high 32:17 vs. Chicago in June to a season-low 9:42 vs. Atlanta in mid-August. But she was playing more consistently over the past six games, averaging 19.2 minutes.Cunningham’s usage Sunday was more staggering. She’s averaging 22.2 minutes through 41 games, and had not played fewer than 11 minutes in a game this season. The veteran wings’ minutes Sunday were determined, in part, by the emergence of Raven Johnson. The rookie guard checked in late in the first quarter and finished with a career-high 26 minutes, netting six points, four rebounds, two blocks, a steal and a plus-1 rating.”Those (lineup) decisions, we’re trying to figure out different lineups, maybe that we’ll be using in the playoffs and testing things out,” Hull added. “I thought Raven did a really great job when she came in and contributed on both ends of the floor and brought us work off the bench.”More: Raven Johnson hasn’t played much. Why Fever all-time great thinks rookie will be better than herWhite cited Johnson’s defensive energy when asked about her minutes relative to Hull and Cunningham.”Her ability to put heat on the ball, her activity level, her ability to — even if she didn’t get rebounds, get in there and mix it up,” White said. “She was the only one on
