​No. 1 Nebraska volleyball opens Big Ten play by hosting Rutgers on Friday night. Since 2000, the Huskers are 25-1 in conference openers, with the only loss at Penn State in 2012. This will be the 18th meeting between these two programs with Nebraska holding a 16-1 lead. The Huskers have won 16 consecutive matches against the Scarlet Knights since falling to Rutgers in their first meeting in 1978.Nebraska was ranked No. 1 in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll, released Sept. 21. It marks the Huskers’ 128th week all-time at No. 1 in the AVCA Coaches Poll, the most of any program in the nation.The Big Red have the nation’s best defense, with an impressive .081 opponent hitting percentage. The NU defense has led the nation in opponent hitting percentage three times in the last four seasons (2022, 2023 & 2025)The Huskers rank seventh nationally in team hitting percentage with .318. Nebraska has hit over .300 in all but four matches this season. Since 2023, Nebraska has won 53 straight regular-season matches at the Devaney Center.
