​Deco: ‘Barcelona have moved on from Julian Alvarez’Barcelona sporting director Deco believes their failed pursuit of Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez is now behind them.Barcelona wanted Alvarez to replace Robert Lewandowski as their long-term No.9. However, Atletico had no intention of selling the Argentine to a direct La Liga rival.Speaking at the Portugal Football Summit in Oeiras, Deco confirmed Barcelona made an offer for the 26-year-old before accepting that a deal would not happen.“Julian’s situation has nothing to do with Raphinha’s,” Deco said (via Mundo Deportivo).“The idea was always to bring in a mobile No.9, with the ability to link up with teammates, and Julian was one of those players.“It wasn’t possible; we made an offer. The club has always said they wouldn’t sell him, and we’ve had to look for other solutions.”Barcelona eventually turned their attention elsewhere, with Gabriel Jesus emerging as the solution to their search for a more mobile forward.Deco added: “The story with Julian is in the past. We have to look ahead. We’re happy with everything else. I hope he’s doing well too, helping his club.”The transfer saga grew tense after Alvarez made his desire to move to Barcelona clear.Atletico chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin also criticised how the situation was handled, with Alvarez subsequently facing a difficult reception from sections of the club’s support.The striker scored 20 goals last season after netting 29 times during his debut campaign following his move from Manchester City.However, he has yet to start a La Liga match this term, although he impressed during Atletico’s Champions League opener against Liverpool.Rumours claim the former River Plate striker is still keen on a move to the Catalan giants and is considering changing agents.He is reportedly considering joining Javier Pastore’s agency.
