​Sep. 25—No matter what records Pisgah and Tuscola hold going into a County Clash, you can always expect fireworks.On Wednesday, the two schools’ soccer teams met in Canton. Coming into the game, each team had just one win on the season — but that didn’t prevent an exciting matchup as the Bears came from behind to grab a 3-2 win over their rivals.”We are happy that the Bear is moving again. They’ve been working so hard, and they own this,” Pisgah Coach Luis Garcia said.The match was back and forth throughout, with both teams having chances to win.”It was a good game,” Tuscola Coach Ray Sugg said. “I hate it when we’re on the wrong end of it, but I’m proud of them for not losing their cool, like I’ve seen happen in this match a whole lot of times.”The game always brings out the best in the two teams, and Wednesday night was no different.”It’s a classic, and I told the kids that conference is important, but when we are with this team, that changes everything,” Garcia said.Early Tuscola leadIn the first half, Tuscola looked to have control of the game. The Mountaineers struck first when junior Giovanni Raya-Corona got free going up the middle of the field. The forward put the ball in the net to give Tuscola the early lead.That lead would stay at 1-0 at halftime.In the opening 40 minutes, Pisgah was without several starters after an argument between players and Garcia at the Bears’ previous game led to players serving a first-half team-imposed suspension.”They didn’t get to play in the first half, and we knew we needed to stick some goals in, and we had chances, and we didn’t,” Sugg said. “We haven’t been in the situation where we get a lot of touches in the attacking third. We just haven’t been there. We’ve been sitting back and weathering the storm from teams loaded with a lot better players than what they have, which is why both of us going in had one win.”The game showed a contest of two vastly different teams. Both teams are much younger than last season’s squads, but the Bears play a style where they can score on you from just about anywhere on the field. Tuscola, on the other hand, relies on strong defense and scoring when they get the chance.”He’s got guys who can finish, and I don’t. If I had one of those players that scored a goal for him, we win this game,” Sugg said.Second half turnaroundOnce those players returned in the second half, the game flipped. The Bears were able to create far more scoring opportunities after halftime — eventually converting on three long shots in that half.”They’ve been working so hard in practice. These opportunities came, and they took advantage of it. They shot it, and those were great goals,” Garcia said.And all three weren’t for a lack of defensive effort. Every time, there was a Tuscola defender in the direct vicinity, but the Bears just pulled out a better finish.”Everyone in the back four played every single minute of this game, and hustled to the end. They have been solid all year long,” Sugg said.
