Nobert Novenyi Jr. had a bittersweet Tuesday night at Dana White’s Contender Series.Novenyi Jr. (11-1) defeated Theo Haig (7-2) by unanimous decision in the DWCS 93 main event at Meta APEX. UFC CEO Dana White said he didn’t like the fight, and Novenyi Jr. walked away without a contract. The 26-year-old former Bellator standout showed shades of his well-rounded ability, when he wobbled then later dropped Haig with a beautiful combination. However, Novenyi Jr. uncharacteristically gassed out early after a failed rehydration process.”I came off the plan a little bit, which I usually get away with,” Novenyi Jr. told MMA Junkie. “And this time for some reason – well, I had a couple of little stomach issues in fight camp, but nothing crazy. And then when I started rehydrating, I came off the plan, had a little bit too much sugar, a little bit extra Vitargo, a little bit of extra this, a little bit of extra that, and my stomach got so bad. It got extremely bloated. Monday night, I couldn’t sleep at all, and the issue was that Monday as well, like even though I was so bloated, I just tried to force feed myself a little bit. And yeah, it just done me really dirty. Monday night I couldn’t sleep because I was in so much pain, and because of that, I was trying to get rid of the feeling of being bloated and all of that on Tuesday. So, I wasn’t eating, I wasn’t drinking properly, I couldn’t even drink water, and I was really feeling that all Tuesday. “Then I got to the APEX, started a warm up, and the athletic commission can attest it, unfortunately, that I kept running in and out of the toilet for probably 20 times within like an hour. And by the end of the warm up, I actually started feeling good, but even the warm up, it took me probably 40 minutes to get sweat going. Like, I just wasn’t there, and then by the end I felt really sharp. I was feeling good. The walkout felt good. I started the first round, I started feeling good, and after literally the first wrestling exchange, it’s like my body died on me. As in, I couldn’t feel my legs, I couldn’t feel my arms. Everything just felt horrible, and when I watched the fight back, you can’t really see it, but I had nothing. Literally from the second half of the first round, it was literally just my heart pushing me through it because my arms felt like noodles, legs felt like noodles, everything was just gone.”Novenyi Jr. knew during the fight that he wasn’t going to get the UFC contract.”Going into third round, unfortunately, I knew that I had to win,” Novenyi Jr. said. “At the end of the day, the priority is to win, and well, that’s the way I look at it. I think you need to win first, and I knew that if I just go striking, he might go for a takedown, I might not be able to wrestle out of it just because I’m so tired. So, I went for the takedown first, and I made that third round quite boring, and I’m sorry about that. “Obviously, that’s not what I wanted to do, but I had to make the most of the body I had tha
