​Jarrett Hurt is nothing if not consistent.Over the years, his Claremore teams have developed a reputation for never backing down. They play hard, they play physical and, under Hurt’s watchful eye, very few opponents are going to push the Zebras around.Perhaps Hurt’s greatest consistency, though, can be found in the win column.Claremore’s 35-27 Homecoming victory Friday night over Nathan Hale at Lantow Field gave Hurt his 100th career win as a head coach. And, in true Hurt fashion, the milestone came in another classic.The victory pushed Hurt’s career record to 100-81 across 17 seasons as a head coach. Thirty-one wins came during a six-year stint at Skiatook from 2000-05, while the other 69 have come since taking over Claremore in 2016.After spending 11 seasons as an assistant before taking his second head-coaching job, Hurt is now 69-49 with the Zebras. That puts him second in program history behind only Lester Jensen, who won 76 games from 1954-63.“It’s been a journey to get here,” Hurt said. “It’s never the goal; the journey is the goal. The journey is the best part of the whole thing, working with the kids and the coaches every day.”Even the manner in which No. 100 arrived fit the coach’s track record.Claremore has developed a knack for living on the edge.Hurt is 22-22 in one-score games during his Claremore tenure, but the Zebras have won 13 of 16 such contests since 2023. Hurt had a similar track record at Skiatook, going 10-10 in one-score games.Claremore’s first four games this season have all been decided by eight points or fewer. The Zebras lost nail-biters against Sallisaw [20-14] and Muskogee [28-24] while edging out Bartlesville [35-32] before making sure Friday’s latest close call ended in celebration.It also gave Claremore a victory in both teams’ District 5A-4 opener.“You don’t get 100 wins if you don’t have great players, great assistant coaches, great administration, great support from the community,” Hurt said. “It takes a lot of people working together to win high school football games. And we’re lucky that here in Claremore, we have all those pieces. We have all those right pieces.“I’m so appreciative of what we have here in Claremore because we have a chance to win here in Claremore.”Nathan Hale [2-2, 0-1] made the Zebras earn every bit of it, piling up 434 yards — including 299 through the air — to Claremore’s 285.The Rangers also controlled third down. Claremore finished 0-of-5, while Hale converted 5-of-10 third downs and 2-of-3 fourth downs.However, when the Zebras needed a conversion of their own, they found one on fourth down.
