​Thomas Müller has signed a contract extension with the Vancouver Whitecaps -Credit:Rich Lam/Getty ImagesSince joining the Vancouver Whitecaps midway through the 2025 MLS season, Thomas Müller has taken to both the league and the team like a duck to water.Originally signed through the end of the 2025 season with an option for a further year, the Germany and Bayern Munich legend’s future appeared uncertain with just over two months of the regular season remaining.However, it was announced on Tuesday that Müller has agreed to an extension with the Whitecaps, keeping him in Canada through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season.Müller was named a 2026 MLS All-Star -Credit:Omar Vega/Getty ImagesWith the MLS set to switch from a spring-through-fall format to the European summer-through-spring schedule as of the 2027-2028 season, a short ‘Sprint Season’ will be held between February and May of 2027. This will consist of 14 intra-conference games, with eight teams from each conference reaching the playoffs, aiming to reach the Cup game on May 7.This will ensure that 37-year-old Müller will have had at least three shots at claiming the MLS Cup, having lost the 2025 final to Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami. That being said, with Vancouver currently top of the Western Conference, perhaps he won’t need to wait until 2027 to claim the biggest prize in U.S. soccer.“I’ve really enjoyed my time here from the beginning,” Müller explained. “Vancouver has been very open and welcoming to me, and I’ve felt that same spirit throughout the club. “We have an offensive, possession-based style that is fun to play and fun to watch, and you can really feel the excitement around the team and the city right now. The fans are enjoying it, and I think everyone wants to be part of what we are building.“For me, it’s still so much fun to be out on the pitch every week, and I feel good physically.
