​Gareth Ellis made 127 appearances for Hull FC as a player [Shutterstock]York Knights have appointed Gareth Ellis as assistant head coach to Mark Applegarth.The 45-year-old, who played alongside Applegarth at Wakefield Trinity, had been director of rugby and wellbeing at Hull FC.”I’m really looking forward to getting started. It’s an exciting time for the club, which has huge potential,” the former England international told the club website.”I’m excited to be back involved in coaching after spending the last few years in player welfare.”Ellis enjoyed a stellar playing career with Wakefield, Leeds Rhinos, Wests Tigers and Hull FC.He retired at the end of the 2017 season to become the club’s football manager but then returned to playing midway through 2019 before retiring for good in 2020.
