The Steelers and Cowboys are finalizing a deal sending CB Joey Porter Jr. to Dallas, sources tell @ringer@netflixsports. pic.twitter.com/yy9UlQHdZ3— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) October 1, 2026Reports earlier on Wednesday (and Sunday) suggested that the Cowboys were interested in Porter. Clearly that wound up being accurate as they wound up pulling off a deal for him. Many assumed that this deal wouldn’t come to pass as Porter Jr. has been holding out (essentially) from operations with Pittsburgh over a desired new deal. It would stand to reason that the Cowboys are comfortable giving him one, and given the Cowboys’ history on this front this is why many assumed it wouldn’t come to pass. The Steelers are set to play on Thursday night this week so getting this deal done now makes sense. The Cowboys play on Sunday in Houston, and it feels fair to assume that Porter will play. Time will clearly tell.Porter is the latest headlining player to join the Cowboys dating back to all time following the Micah Parsons trade. The Cowboys have said that they believe in this team and they are really showing it with their moves.Compensation is still not fully known, we will obviously update when it is reported, but for now early reports are that a second-round pick is involved. Dallas has their fourth from the same deal. Also, Pittsburgh has Dallas’ fifth-round pick from the George Pickens trade. Dallas did have Pittsburgh’s sixth-rounder, but they sent it back in the Broderick Jones deal. We still don’t know what year this second-round pick is from.Got all that?Update: 11:58pm ETTodd Archer has the details on years. The sixth-round pick is in 2027, but the second-rounder is in 2028!From a source: the Cowboys are giving up a sixth-round pick in 2027 and a second rounder in 2028 for Porter. https://t.co/Zn4ojgSPPv— Todd Archer (@toddarcher) October 1,
