Last season the Jaguars ranked first in rushing yards allowed and the team has not allowed a 75-yard rusher since the 2024 season. It’s a big part of who the Jaguars are, their defensive identity; forcing takeaways and stout run-defense. At the heart of it all is defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton. He may not put up the pressures and sacks that look sexy in the box score, but his impact is no less felt on the grass. He may just be the NFL’s best run-stuffer. Across the first three weeks, Hamilton’s eight run-stops rank second among defensive tackles, while his 17.0% run-stop rate ranks first. He’s a big reason as to why the Jags are allowing just 3.6 yards per carry. His impact is truly felt, however, when comparing the Jaguars’ success when he is on the field versus off it. In 2026, the Jaguars are allowing 2.77 YPC when Hamilton is on the field and 4.57 YPC when he is off it. That’s nearly a two-yard difference in production. His impact is even more noticeable in minimizing yards before contact, 1.64 per attempt on the field and 3.09 off the field. His ability to eat space, close lanes, and redirect running backs is an integral part of what makes the Jags’ run-defense so dominant. Dating back to Week 1 of the 2025 season, The Jaguars allow 3.09 YPC when Hamilton sees the field. Admittedly, his impact is neutralized in the passing game, but that’s not Hamilton’s game, nor is it the Jaguars. Run-defense is their calling. The Jaguars have forced 37 turnovers across the last 20 games. Add in their league-best run-defense and you’ve got a scary defense that forces teams into playing one-dimensional football and reaps the rewards in takeaways.>>> STREAM ACTION SPORTS JAX 24/7 LIVE <<<[DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks][SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter] Click here to download the free Action News Jax apps, click here to download the Action News Jax Now app for your smart TV and click here to stream Action Sports Jax 24/7 live.
