Florida football JACK Jayden Woods was added to the Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List following his superlative performance through the first four games of the season, the Maxwell Football Club announced Wednesday afternoon.Woods has amassed 19 total tackles, four sacks for 15 yards, six tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one quarterback hurry so far this season. His six tackles for loss and four sacks this fall have already surpassed his five tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks from his debut campaign, in which he earned all-freshman SEC honors. The 6-foot-3-inch, 245-pound defender was named the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week for his efforts in Florida’s 44-39 win over Auburn, recording a career high in tackles for loss with 3.5 and sacks with 2.5. In the Gators’ 52-28 victory over Ole Miss in Week 4, Woods made four tackles — two tackles for loss — and a strip sack near the end of the third quarter. The resulting turnover was a critical moment, giving Florida the ball back near midfield and subsequently resulting in a touchdown for the Orange and Blue. Woods joins Myles Graham on the Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List; Graham was named to the watch list in the preseason.About the Chuck Bednarik AwardThe Bednarik Award has been presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year since 1994 and is named in honor of Chuck “Concrete Charlie” Bednarik, who was an All-American player at the University of Pennsylvania and later a multiple-year All-Pro linebacker and center for the Philadelphia Eagles.
