Mike McCarthy regrets his language at Aaron Rodgers during TNF loss

Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy are never shy about expressing their feelings to one another, something Green Bay Packers fans know all about. The dynamic between the former Packers quarterback and coach came out again during the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 27-24 loss to the Cleveland Browns on “Thursday Night Football” on Oct. 1. Rodgers was upset with McCarthy early in the game and let his coach know it. Everyone watching the game on Amazon Prime Video saw it, too. And McCarthy had some choice words about Rodgers in return. After the game, McCarthy said he regrets his part – or at least that it was captured on TV and the language he used.”Everyone’s competing on the field and I think what’s said on the field, (how) I grew up in this game, usually that stays on the field,” he said. “That’s not the case today, but any negative communication on my part, I wish I wouldn’t use those words.”The exchange happened during the Steelers’ 17-play, nearly 10-minute eventual touchdown drive in the first quarter. Pittsburgh had just picked up a first down at the Cleveland 20-yard line and was huddling. That’s when a demonstrative Rodgers looked to the sideline and screamed: “What the (expletive)? Call it!”Then the camera zoomed in on McCarthy and you didn’t have to be an expert lip reader to pick up his two-expletive reaction.Aaron Rodgers has let his emotions show tonight#TNFonPrimepic.twitter.com/YOAFXuyYMY— NFL on Prime Video (@NFLonPrime) October 2, 2026Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy are doing just fine 😂 pic.twitter.com/m8zm3pUHfv— Whistle (@WhistleSports) October 2, 2026The next play resulted in an incompletion, but four plays later, Rodgers found Roman Wilson for a 12-yard touchdown for the game’s first score.
