Gotham FC announced today that USWNT defender Emily Sonnett has agreed to a two-year contract extension, keeping her with the defending champions through the 2028 season.
“I’m really excited to continue with Gotham FC,” Sonnett said. “This is a special group that holds itself to a high standard every day. I’m looking forward to building on what we’ve started here.”

Sonnett joined the club ahead of the 2024 season and quickly became a mainstay on the back line, playing in 65 of 69 possible matches across all NWSL competitions since she joined Gotham. Throughout these three seasons, she’s contributed to a defense that has consistently been in the top three in the league on goals allowed.
“Emily has been an essential part of our team’s success,” said Yael Averbuch West, the president of soccer operations for Gotham FC. “Her quality, consistency and standard of excellence have been incredibly valuable to our group, and we’re excited to have her continue with Gotham FC.”
