Florida Power & Light Pensacola Boys Athlete of the Week Sept. 28-Oct. 3

   ​The first week of October brought plenty of high school sports action.Pace outlasted Pine Forest in overtime in arguably the game of the year so far in the Pensacola area, while West Florida handed Booker T. Washington its first loss.Tate boys golf, the defending District 1-3A champions, won the Miracle Strip Invitational on Sept. 29 in Fort Walton Beach, beating Gulf Breeze by four strokes. The Central boys had a strong week too, taking second against many of the small schools in northwest Florida at an event at Eagle Springs in DeFuniak Springs on Sept. 29.Area cross country teams competed at the Wildcat Invitational, with the Aletheia Christian boys finishing second to Niceville. Pensacola Christian went across state lines and won the Mako Invite in Orange Beach.West Florida and Navarre swimming competed at the Panama City Beach High School Invitational, with the Jaguars finishing third and the Raiders sixth.Submit your highlights for our new Plays of the Month seriesAll that means plenty of nominees for this week’s Florida Power & Light PNJ Boys Athlete of the Week. Gulf Breeze swimming’s Arthur Phillips won the award last week, lapping the competition with 71.9% of the vote.Now it’s time to make your voice heard again. Voting closes at 11 a.m Saturday, and the winners will be announced each Monday after the poll closes. Each weekly winner will be awarded a PNJ Athlete of the Week shirt provided by BSN SPORTS. An athlete can only win one time per season.Nominees will be accepted via phone or email, but the poll is decided by PNJ staff.
