LSU baseball transfer pitcher skyrockets in new ESPN rankings

ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel released his first college baseball transfer portal rankings this week. New LSU baseball pitcher Landon Hood came in much higher on McDaniel’s rankings than he has elsewhere. McDaniel slotted Hood at No. 8, while 64Analytics ranked Hood No. 160.
Hood’s placement in McDaniel’s rankings, a respected MLB Draft writer, signals a high ceiling for the right-handed pitcher. Hood emerged as a freshman with Gonzaga in 2026, showcasing high-level stuff. That made Hood an attractive prospect for SEC schools upon entering the portal.

McDaniel slots Hood in the 40 FV tier, meaning he currently grades out as a late first-round pick. But Hood won’t be draft eligible for two years. LSU will have Hood for 2027 and 2028. With LSU returning its entire starting rotation in 2027, Hood figures to begin his LSU career as a high-leverage reliever. Hood has starter upside and should compete for a rotation spot in 2028.
Landing pitchers with multiple years left was important for LSU after the Tigers lost a significant chunk of their high school signing class to the MLB Draft last year.
