James joined the 76ers as a free agent this summer on a two-year, $7.95 million veteran minimum contract.James is living in New York rather than Philadelphia for the duration of his 76ers tenure. This involves taking multiple round trips between the two cities using the Fanatics helicopter.Given that Fanatics owner Michael Rubin is a 76ers fan and previously held a 10 percent minority stake in the franchise, some fans have raised the possibility of salary cap circumvention. This comes after the Los Angeles Clippers were punished for doing so in connection with Kawhi Leonard.NBA fans question LeBron James’ Fanatics deal after 76ers moveNBA media personality Eddie Gonzalez, who co-hosted The ETCs with Kevin Durant podcast between 2020 and 2024, wants Pablo Torre to investigate LeBron James’ Fanatics deal. Torre was the leading journalist behind the investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers’ salary cap circumvention involving Kawhi Leonard.“Let’s see if you really are who you say you are, Pablo Torre,” Gonzalez tweeted on Monday night. Torre prides himself on being one of, if not the best, investigative journalists in American sports and would likely relish the challenge if he thought it was worth pursuing.“Let’s see what you are made of,” an X user responded. “Legacy is on the line,” a second replied. Two other users raised questions about the potential implications, with one writing: “Michael Rubin’s connection to the Sixers makes this shady, but I’m sure the NBA will look the other way,” while another added: “Ehhhh, I’m really curious about the salary cap implications.”However, there is currently no indication that Torre or anyone else will pursue an investigation into James’ Fanatics deal. James put pen to paper more than two years before joining the 76ers, while Rubin is no longer a part-owner of the franchise.Read more:‘I’m not trying to get fined’ – Scottie Barnes has already had enough of NBA officialsDave Portnoy claims NBA superstar LeBron James already ‘hates’ PhiladelphiaSteph Curry has noticed something different about Brandin Podziemski in Warriors preseason
