MONROE – New Boston Huron ran away with both team titles in the second Huron League cross country jamboree of the season.Huron’s girls, who also won the first jamboree, had no trouble going 2-for-2. They scored 30 points to finish 27 ahead of runner-up Airport.The Chiefs landed five runners in the top 11 as Grace Pacheco, Zoey Cheney, Isa Vargo, Kayla Chrsitesen and Lauren Macon ran 2-4-6-9-12.Huron’s boys nipped Airport, which won the first jamboree, 60-65.Cameron Crane was the runner-up for Huron, which also got strong performances from Daelin Ring (10), Tanner Kuhn (12), Garrett Patrick (13) and Brenton Mussallam (23).Airport ran 4-7-17-18-19 with Andrew Bell, Hunter Rodak, Jacob Kuti, Hayden Bovair and Grady Marino.Airport’s girls took second place led by Ella Baker (3), Abbey Ward (8), Madison Agocs (11), Kendal Kleman (14) and Ella Otter (26)Claire Miller of Jefferson was the girls individual winner with a time of 20:13.2. Her teammates Randee Mulherin (15) and Katelyn Steinhour (20) also were in the top 20.Juleigh Husby was 10th and Makayla Markgraff 19th for fifth place St. Mary Catholic Central. Sixth-place Flat Rock had a pair of top 20 finishes – Avery Wilde (13) and Gwen Dalton (18).Jefferson’s boys were third with 76, followed by SMCC (97), Grosse Ile )114), Riverview (131), Milan (186) and Flat Rock (195).SMCC’s Christian Craanen won the race in 16:37.9 and teammates Phineas Totten and Thomas Wickenheiser ran 8-9.Jefferson was led by Mason Tulik (3), Carter Lee (6) and Gabe Busen (16).Milan’s Mason Martin finished 11th and Brayden Brodie of Flat Rock 26th.TUESDAY’S TOP PERFORMERSGIRLS GOLFLauren Tolliver, SMCC: Took third place individually in the Division 4 Regional with a round of 96 at Calderone Farms in Grass Lake to help her team qualify for the Division 4 state finals. Tolliver was supported by Olivia Piepsney (104), Gracelyn Carter (106) and Claire Holton (112) as the Kestrels shot 418 to tie Grass Lake for first place. Summerfield just missed making it to state in fourth place and the Bulldogs’ Courtney Cribbs was a stroke away from making it individually with 106.Elyse Rogier, Flat Rock: Shot 92 at West Shore Golf and Country Club to place fifth in a Division 3 Regional and qualify for state. Jessica Johnson shot 104 and Ida teammates Addison Schieb and Anna Wyrabkiewicz both checked in at 107. Milan’s Charleigh Meggison shot 111.VOLLEYBALLBlair Russow, Bedford: Racked up 36 digs in a 25-21, 23-25, 25-15, 28-26 loss to Saline. Other leaders for the Mules were Kenna Goulet (13 kills, 14 digs), Anna Gray (11 kills, 6 blocks) and Olivia Eby had (34 assists).Aubrey Federer, Dundee: Recorded 33 assist and 17 digs as the Vikings beat Blissfield 25-18, 25-15, 25-12 on Volley For The Cure Night to benefit the fight against ovarian and breast cancer.
