Former Browns' star keeps door open on return to Cleveland

One of the careers that was most impacted by an injury in the history of the sport of football is Nick Chubb’s. Chubb was one of the greatest running backs in the history of the NFL and the history of the Cleveland Browns’ franchise.
To start the 2023 season, through two games, Chubb was averaging over six yards per carry until the Browns played the Steelers in Week Two on Monday Night Football.

Chubb took a carry in the red zone looking to score, but Pittsburgh safety Minkah Fitzpatrick had other plans. Fitzpatrick met him in the hole, and instead of tackling him up high, he went to chop his legs out, and with that move, he destroyed Chubb’s leg and his career.
It is totally fair to say that Nick Chubb pre-injury isn’t even on the same planet as Nick Chubb post-injury.
Chubb spent the next season in Cleveland and then went on to Houston last season. Chubb went from four straight 1,000-plus yard seasons, maxed out at 1,525 yards in 2022, to three straight seasons of less than 506 yards.
It’s a very sad reality of a career that went totally sideways by a very questionable play.

Regardless of all of that, Nick Chubb will forever be welcomed in Cleveland.
On Thursday, Chubb spoke at the SportsLand Panel in Cleveland along with Joel Bitonio and several other prominent Cleveland media figures. He was asked about a return to Cleveland, and his response was, in perfect Nick Chubb fashion, “You never know what can happen.”
By no means was it an indication that he is coming home or even a reference to anything that is imminent. He simply left the door open for a return to end his career.
The cliff that running backs fall off of when their prime ends is very steep. When there is a massive injury involved, it is even more drastic. Chubb experienced the worst of it, and the result has been nothing short of heartbreaking.

If the opportunity presents itself and Cleveland gives him the chance to return for one final season in the Brown and Orange, there would be absolutely no one who would be against it.
