The drive traveled 406 feet and appeared headed over the wall, but Mitchell reached above the fence and came down with the ball for the second out.Watch sports LIVE with fuboTV (free trial)GARRETT MITCHELL TAKES AWAY A GAME-TYING HOME RUN WITH THIS CATCH AT THE WALL 🤯 pic.twitter.com/1CBQJ4dyV3— ClutchPoints (@ClutchPoints) October 8, 2026As caught on video, Machado immediately showed his frustration, grabbing his helmet after realizing the ball had stayed in the park. Instead of tying the game at 3, the Padres entered the ninth still trailing by two runs. The sequence was especially painful for Machado because he had experienced something similar at Petco Park before. During the 2017 World Baseball Classic, Machado hit a fly ball to the same area while representing the Dominican Republic, only for Adam Jones to leap above the wall and take it away for Team USA.This time, Mitchell played the role of Jones and potentially saved the Brewers’ season from another late-game scare. Milwaukee had already lost Game 3 after San Diego rallied from a 2-0 series deficit, making the eighth-inning robbery even more significant. The Padres had taken some momentum earlier when Tatis launched a 429-foot solo home run to straightaway center field in the third inning, tying the game at 1. However, Milwaukee regained control and held San Diego to only three hits.Related: Brewers’ Garrett Mitchell sounds off on unreal catch that robbed Manny Machado HRRelated: Why Brewers’ series vs. Padres first of its kind since 1915
