Trump’s involvement in sport has become more and more prevalent over recent months. Fans only have to look at how involved he became during the FIFA World Cup in the withdrawal of Folarin Balogun’s suspension for the USMNT.Therefore, his latest admission surrounding former New York Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens will not surprise many. Trump has awarded Clemens the Presidential Medal of Freedom, whilst admitting he will try to get him inducted into the Hall of Fame in the MLB.How Donald Trump tried to get Roger Clemens into MLB Hall of FameClemens has a lot to show for his career including two World Series Championships and an AL MVP award, among other things. However, due to rule changes, Clemens will not be eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame at least until 2031.“We had a great time, he’s an amazing guy. I said, ‘I’m going to call the commissioner of baseball.’ It’s a ridiculous thing that you’re not in the Hall of Fame with that kind of record. He won seven Cy Youngs!” Trump said.“He told me, part of the difficulty is the people on the board were people that he played against, so ‘They all hate me.’”Ironically, the MLB commissioner, Rob Manfred, has no say on who can be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The list of names is determined by the BBWAA before then being voted on by a committee decided by the Hall of Fame.Unfortunately for Clemens, the voters are asked to consider other factors outside of the player’s game, which could prove an issue for the former pitcher given some of his previous allegations. Trump was keen to cover this topic whilst on stage. The President has already had his way in the past through his intervention with Pete Rose. Perhaps he could also have an impact when it comes to Clemens.Read more:Ben Affleck pokes fun at MLB legends Roger Clemens and Nolan Ryan on Kelce podcast‘Start spreading the news’ – Dave Portnoy mocks the Yankees after going 0-3 vs the Rays‘Maybe best’ – MLB superfan ‘Marlins Man’ opens up on viral Dua Lipa interaction at Yankees game
