He gave them hope.With an 0-5 hole looming, an undrafted rookie quarterback trying to keep things afloat and 347 days having passed since their last road victory, the Bucs were in danger of watching their season slip away before it ever got going.Irving wouldn’t let that happen. He put the offense on his back, helped snap the five-game road losing streak and reminded Tampa Bay that its season still has a pulse.Bucky Irving (7) pulls Dallas Cowboys defensive back Reddy Steward into the end zone at the end of a 5-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter, tying the score 7-7.Irving rushed for 165 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, including a 72-yard burst in the second half to lead the Bucs to a 24-16 win over the Cowboys.Irving’s 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter gave the Bucs a 21-10 lead, and Chase McLaughlin tacked on a 41-yard field goal.The 5-foot-9, 195-pound Irving also bailed out a nearly catastrophic decision by coach Todd Bowles.The Bucs faced fourth and goal at the Dallas 1-yard line with a chance to take a three-score lead late in the fourth quarter. But Bowles decided to go for the touchdown, and Sean Tucker was stopped for no gain.The Cowboys responded with a 99-yard touchdown drive, with Dak Prescott throwing an 18-yard touchdown pass to George Pickens. They elected to go for two, but Prescott’s pass for Ryan Flournoy was incomplete.The Cowboys got the ball back and drove to the Tampa Bay 24-yard line, but a pass to tight end Jake Ferguson bounced off his facemask and into the arms of Bucs linebacker Alex Anzalone to seal the win.Bucs linebacker Yaya Diaby (0) intercepts a pass during the second half, one of three Tampa Bay takeaways in the game and five over the past two weeks.It was the third takeaway by the Bucs, who also got an interception from Yaya Diaby and a fumble recovery from Kevin Knowles on a kickoff return.“We talked about it, and it was less than a yard,” Bowles said of the decision to go for the touchdown in the fourth quarter. “And the way we were running the football, we were trying to put the game away.”Unfortunately, quarterback Jalon Daniels and the Bucs offense wasn’t able to close the game out.“Hats off to our defense,” Daniels said. “They played lights out the whole game.
