Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin exited Friday’s game against the Capitals in Washington with an apparent lower-body injury. The injury came midway through the second period as Shesterkin appeared to jam his right leg into the right goalpost as he hustled back into the crease during a Capitals power play. The Blueshirts netminder immediately began pounding the ice in pain as play was stopped and the training staff was waved onto the ice.Shesterkin was helped off the ice without putting any weight on his right leg, holding it above the ice with a teammate under each arm.Losing Shesterkin for any amount of time will be a huge blow to the Rangers, as in addition to being one of the league’s best, he was off to a fantastic start in net, stopping 101 of 109 shots (.927) in 268 minutes on the ice. Not only that, the 30-year-old All-Star had the first goalie goal in franchise history and an assist.Rookie Dylan Garand entered in Shesterkin’s place with the game tied 1-1 in the second period. Garand was on the New York bench because of an injury to journeyman goalie Joonas Korpisalo. Garand, 24, earned praise for recording a shutout against the Detroit Red Wings in his first start of the season last week. Igor Shesterkin was helped off the ice and to the locker room after suffering an apparent injury Shesterkin put no weight on his right leg as he left the ice https://t.co/5Z5xPg3k5M— SNY Rangers (@SNYRangers) October 10, 2026
