Trey Smith discusses unique connection with teammate Kenneth Walker

Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Trey Smith recently discussed his ongoing health battle. He spoke with reporters last week about his unique connection with running back Kenneth Walker III over blood clots that have affected their NFL careers.”When K9 (Kenneth Walker) first got here, I didn’t realize he had a pulmonary embolism as well,” Smith said. “When you think about blood clots in general, you might think someone is elderly or sick, but a lot of people are affected throughout this country.”After his sophomore season at Tennessee, the team medical staff discovered blood clots in Smith’s lungs and ruled him out indefinitely. They identified the issue in February 2018, before spring practice began. His condition created uncertainty heading into the 2021 NFL Draft, causing him to drop to the sixth round.”We (Walker) definitely both have a lot of respect for each other. Going through a circumstance or situation like that, it’s serious,” said Smith. “Having the same exact symptoms, same feelings, it’s just like, damn, someone else has been through that same physical issue.”Smith and Walker are involved with the Stop the Clot campaign through the National Blood Clot Alliance. This article originally appeared on Chiefs Wire: Trey Smith discusses unique connection with teammate Kenneth Walker
