LEXINGTON — Kentucky football is six games into the Kenny Minchey era at quarterback. For those keeping score: That’s halfway through the Wildcats’ 12-game regular season. Hard to argue with the results so far — UK is 5-1 (3-1 SEC) and ranked inside the top 20 in both polls heading into this week’s road matchup against Oklahoma (3-2, 1-1).At the midpoint of Kentucky’s 2026 campaign, there’s no better time to dive into Minchey’s play. We’ll take a look at Minchey in various categories, grading him on accuracy, turnovers and more: Accuracy: AMinchey has thrown 178 passes this fall; he’s completed 120 of them. That’s a completion rate of 67.4% — sixth in the SEC. That puts him on pace for one of the most accurate seasons a UK signal-caller has ever had. (Which is exactly what we predicted in the preseason.)If Minchey ends above 67% at the end of the season, he’ll be only the fourth Kentucky QB to eclipse that figure (minimum 150 completions). The list:Tim Couch: 72.3% in 1998 (400 for 553)Maxwell Smith: 68.7% in 2012 (103 for 150)Terry Wilson: 67.2% in 2018 (180 for 268)Needless to say, it’s hard to be more precise than Minchey has been to this point.Avoiding turnovers: A-Just one of Minchey’s 178 passes has ended up in the wrong hands. That was a pick-six by Alabama linebacker Luke Metz. Conversely, Minchey has tossed 11 touchdowns. An 11-to-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio? Stout. Only two other Power Four quarterbacks have thrown that many passes with just one interception, per CFBStats.com.The Tennessee native has lost a pair of fumbles, however. The first was in the third quarter against the Crimson Tide; the visitors scored five plays later to take a 23-17 lead. The second was in another third period, this time against South Alabama. UK’s defense bailed out Minchey after that miscue, as the Jaguars missed a 50-yard field goal attempt.Remove the fumbles, and Minchey has played as error free as any coach could want. Eleven SEC quarterbacks already have thrown three or more interceptions — matching or exceeding Minchey’s complete turnover total.Explosive pass plays: BMinchey has consistently produced pass plays of 10 yards or greater. With 54 such pass plays, he’s tied for seventh among SEC quarterbacks (alongside Arkansas’ KJ Jackson) in that category, per CFBStats.com.Bear in mind that Pro Football Focus defines an “explosive” pass play as anything that gains 15-plus yards.Minchey is tied for third in the league in 20-plus yard passes, sitting at 23. He has nine of 30 or more (tied for fourth in the conference).Longer than that, however, and Minchey doesn’t have much to show. He only has two completions above 40 yards and just one greater than 50. Last season, the Cats had seven completions covering 40 or more yards. They haven’t topped 10 since the 2022 season with Will Levis.Minchey has no completions of 60-plus yards; his longest pass play was a 53-yarder to DJ Miller in the win at Texas A&M.Assuming Kentucky’s offensive line co
