Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay confirmed last week that the team is not expected to “start the clock” on defensive end Myles Garrett ahead of Week 6. Now, McVay has confirmed this ahead of the team’s Week 6 game. Speaking to the media on Tuesday, the coach stated that Garrett will not return from IR this week. Garrett had been dealing with his knee injury since arriving in Los Angeles, which led to the defensive end missing the majority of the offseason program. Despite missing multiple practices during training camp, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year prepared for Week 1.During Week 1 in Australia, Garrett looked gassed against the San Francisco 49ers, which may have been attributed to the travels plans that McVay got the team stuck in. Regardless of the travel issues, Garrett spent plenty of time off the field in the game. Following the loss it was revealed that the knee injury was something far more serious.Prior to Week 1, Garrett’s knee had been dealing with soreness and swelling. McVay then confirmed that the defender would undergo arthroscopic knee surgery to correct the issue. The procedure led to Garrett being placed on IR, which knocked him out for the next four regular season games. With those games now up, the hope for the Rams was that he would heal in time to return to the team. That is not the case. Garrett will need more time to heal from the procedure. There is no clear timetable for when that will be, but McVay is often forthcoming about these details.McVay is likely to offer more details about the defender’s return timeline as they come. The Rams’ defense will continue to operate without Garrett. The NFL world will also have to wait to see the combination of Garrett and Aaron Donald until Garrett can fully heal from his procedure.Los Angeles is currently 2-3 this season after dropping a heartbreaker against the Buffalo Bills on Monday night. During the game, kicker Harrison Mevis attempted a game-winner, leading to a blocked field goal, and the Bills kicking their own game-winner in overtime. The Rams have since released Mevis due to a missed field goal earlier in the game that may have been the deciding factor. With three losses on the season, the Rams are already treading dangerous waters in terms of being able to land the NFC crown at the end of the season. Their luck may change with the return of Garrett, whenever that happens.
