Oso Ighodaro has agreed to a three-year, $29 million contract extension that runs through the 2030-31 season, his agent Erika Ruiz of Primera Sports told ESPN’s Shams Charania. The deal came together a day before Monday’s deadline for rookie-scale and second-round extensions.Charania added that the Suns are picking up Ighodaro’s $2.5 million team option for 2027-28, so the extension starts in 2028 and runs through 2031 for a second-round find who has established himself as a reliable center. Ighodaro is now signed further out than any other player on the roster, including Devin Booker.Watch sports LIVE with fuboTV (free trial)For Phoenix, the price is a big part of the appeal. Ighodaro was eligible for up to four years and $92.8 million, but the new deal averages just under $10 million per season, below the $12.7 million average Mark Williams got on his three-year, $38 million deal this summer.Ighodaro has earned the commitment. The Suns acquired the Phoenix native out of Desert Vista High School and Marquette on draft night after he went 40th overall in 2024. He played all 82 games last season, making 24 starts, and averaged 6.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 22 minutes per game while shooting 65.3% from the field. He also appeared in both play-in games and the Suns’ first-round playoff series.Head coach Jordan Ott has made it clear what he values most in the 24-year-old. “We know he’s an elite defender, he’s an elite possession gainer,” he told Phoenix Suns On SI.Ott has also pushed Ighodaro to be more aggressive offensively, noting that the big man “almost enjoys passing more than scoring.”The timing of the extension matters too. Williams tore the labrum in his left shoulder and is expected to miss multiple months, opening the door for Ighodaro to take on a bigger role. He is battling second-year center Khaman Maluach for the starting job.Ighodaro now has long-term security heading into his third NBA season, and he will not have to wait long to show what the Suns are paying for. Phoenix opens the 2026-27 regular season on the road against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday, Oct. 21.Related: Why Oso Ighodaro’s contract extension was a win-win for SunsRelated: Suns’ Dillon Brooks thanks Matt Ishbia for ‘cleaning up that stench’ before he arrived
