The 26-year-old missed the first five games because of a calf injury before returning to help Chicago improve to 4-2.Gordon’s three sacks tied the NFL record for the most by a defensive back in a single game since sacks became an official statistic in 1982, according to NFL Research. The accomplishment was all the more extraordinary considering he had accumulated just 2.5 sacks across his previous 45 regular-season appearances.Gordon repeatedly disrupted Atlanta quarterback Michael Penix Jr. His first sack came early in the third quarter on a second-and-9 situation, helping the Bears force a turnover on downs shortly afterward.Watch sports LIVE with fuboTV (free trial)He continued applying pressure on the Falcons’ following possession, bringing down Penix and forcing a fumble on third down. Although the Atlanta recovered the loose ball, the Falcons were forced to punt on the next play.Gordon’s most important contribution came with 2:54 remaining in the fourth quarter. With Chicago’s lead reduced to 31-23, Gordon notched another strip-sack, and linebacker Devin Bush recovered the fumble at Atlanta’s 28-yard line. The Bears subsequently ran down the clock inside the Falcons’ 5-yard line to clinch the victory.Gordon also logged two quarterback hits and tackled running back Bijan Robinson for a loss on a third-down play in the second quarter. The performance marked Gordon’s first game since dealing with multiple soft-tissue injuries last season. He signed a three-year, $40 million contract extension with Chicago before the 2025 season and had spent two separate periods on injured reserve.Quarterback Caleb Williams also returned from a hamstring injury after missing three games. He completed his first 12 passes for 142 yards before throwing his first incompletion, finishing 30 of 36 for 305 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. His completion rate was 83.3%, and he had a 111.2 passer rating.Running back D’Andre Swift scored twice, while Roschon Johnson added another rushing touchdown. The two backs combined for 99 rushing yards and three touchdowns.Chicago took a 31-7 lead before Atlanta scored twice in the fourth quarter, with Penix finishing 19 of 33 for 225 yards and three touchdowns. Despite surrendering the late scores, the Bears held on for their fourth win.Chicago will next host the New England Patriots on Thursday night in the first of three consecutive prime-time contests.Related: Bears QB Caleb Williams isn’t satisfied despite Tom Brady’s praiseRelated: Bears’ Caleb Williams reached out to ‘J
