Houston needed something to feel good about, and C.J. Stroud delivered. Now, the rest of the league has recognized it, too.The NFL announced Wednesday, Oct. 21, that Stroud was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week following his performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. It marks the fourth time the Houston Texans quarterback has earned the award — another reminder of the difference he can make when Houston gives itself an opportunity to finish. For Texans fans, this one should feel particularly satisfying. There is something encouraging about watching your quarterback help pull out a division win, then seeing his name attached to one of the league’s weekly honors. But the bigger takeaway is what Houston can build from here.#Texans QB C.J. Stroud on AFC Offensive Player of the Week honor: ‘It’s a blessing, grateful for the honor’— Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) October 21, 2026Stroud Gave Houston the Performance It NeededStroud completed 24 of 34 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns in Houston’s 34-31 victory over Jacksonville. Four career selections provide more evidence of a quarterback’s ability to deliver standout performances. That does not mean Stroud is above criticism. Every starting quarterback has decisions he would like back, throws he needs to improve and stretches that invite questions. Houston should continue holding him to the standard that comes with being the face of the franchise.Still, the discussion needs balance.Stroud’s ability deserves the same attention as his mistakes. When he produces a performance that earns conference recognition, there should be room to acknowledge it without immediately moving the conversation to everything that remains unfinished.Enjoy the award. He earned it. Then raise the expectation for what comes next.Houston Has to Make This RepeatableMy biggest concern moving forward is whether the Texans can create the conditions for more afternoons like this. That starts with protection. It continues with receivers completing their assignments, manageable down-and-distance situations and play-calling th
