Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham said the staff will know Tuesday morning who will start at quarterback to make sure he receives all the snaps in practice with the starters.Whittingham told reporters on Monday, Oct. 26, at his weekly news conference, that he wasn’t naming a starting quarterback for the Wolverines’ upcoming game at Rutgers. More: Michigan’s Whittingham: No ‘panic’ over OC Jason Beck, no decision on QBFreshman Tommy Carr started last week in a 13-6 overtime loss to Indiana and has played the last six quarters after taking over from sophomore Bryce Underwood, who had started 19 games going back to last season. While speaking on the “Inside Michigan Football” radio show with host Jon Jansen, Whittingham shared more insight into the decision Monday night.“(Tuesday) morning (the decision) will be made, and we’ve got to get all the reps to whoever is the guy,” Whittingham said. “Some coaches in a situation like this would split the reps throughout the week and may the best man win, but we think it’s in our best interest to get that defined early in the week, especially when you have, if it is Tommy, a guy that has such limited experience that needs every rep he can get.“But the bottom line, as I always say, and that’s with every position, is which guy gives us the best chance to win this particular game, that’s who we’ll go with.”Whittingham also said he hopes starting right tackle Blake Frazier, who missed the Indiana game, will be healthy to play at Rutgers.“Boy, we sure hope so,” Whittingham said. “Time will tell. But it’s still early in the week, and we’ll get a much better read on that after (Tuesday’s) practice.”Michigan at Rutgers▶Kickoff: 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 31, SHI Stadium, Piscataway, N.J.▶TV/radio: BTN/94.7 FM▶Records: Michigan is 4-3, 1-3 Big Ten; Rutgers s 2-5, 1-3.▶Line: Michigan by 14.▶Series: Michigan leads 9-1 (Last meeting: Michigan defeated Rutgers, 31-7 on Sept. 23, 2023.
