PHILADELPHIA — DeMarvion Overshown believes everything happens for a reason. For a football player who’s been through as much as he has during his four seasons in the NFL, it’s a required mentality. He’s had not one, but two torn ACLs. He’s had moments where he looked like the next great Cowboys linebacker, only to be sidelined. It happened again this year when he injured his hamstring in the season opener, prompting a road to recovery that was longer than expected. “I feel like I’m a soldier that [God] continues to put through adversity, because that’s my calling,” Overshown said, “My calling is to help people get through adversity, help people get through the tough times, and when I get my time to shine again, God’s grace shows it out there on the field.”That was Overshown’s testimony after he and the Cowboys defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38-21 in a game they desperately needed. Fittingly, it was Overshown’s return that helped a defense that was certainly dealing with adversity. It was far from a perfect performance for the Cowboys’ defense. They allowed touchdowns on Philadelphia’s first two drives. They looked bound for another struggle in a season that’s been filled with them. And, yes, while it came against an Eagles offense that missed its starting quarterback, its No. 1 wide receiver and its star running back for most of the evening, the Cowboys defense improved as the night went on.Overshown played a crucial role in it. He had multiple third-down stops, an area where the Cowboys massively struggled without him in the lineup for five weeks. He also had the game-sealing interception midway through the fourth quarter when he jumped an out route intended for Dallas Goedert and made a leaping grab. The catch was so good that the ESPN cameras even caught wide receiver CeeDee Lamb — a known connoisseur of highlight grabs — evidently impressed. DEMARVION OVERSHOWN PICKS TANNER MCKEE OFF AND THE COWBOYS ARE STARTING TO ROLL!🤘 #CowboysNation https://t.co/QRTHQwbbSP— SportsDay Cowboys (@dmn_cowboys) October 27, 2026The only mistake Overshown might’ve made on the night was his decision to run to the complete other side of the field to celebrate his interception with his teammates. “It felt good,” Overshown said, “but next time I’m going to run to the closer end zone.”Overshown finished the game with six tackles, two pass breakups, an interception and a tackle for loss. His impact was larger than what the stat sheet showed, however. For the majority of this season the Cowboys’ defense has lacked impact. Sacks and tackles for loss were few and far between. They didn’t have their first interception until Dee Winters grabbed one last w
