Arman Tsarukyan says Justin Gaethje ‘trying to duck me,’ open to ‘perfect’ alternative

If Justin Gaethje won’t fight again, Arman Tsarukyan is down to welcome UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski back to lightweight. After finishing Movsar Evloev in Saturday’s UFC 333 headliner, Volkanovski (29-4 MMA, 16-3 UFC) pitched the idea of a double retirement fight against lightweight champ Gaethje (28-5 MMA, 11-5 UFC). Tsarukyan (24-3 MMA, 11-2 UFC) expects a title shot next, but as Gaethje mulls retirement, the No. 1 contender is currently in the dark.”Someone is trying to duck me; it’s Justin Gaethje,” Tsarukyan told Helen Yee. “Now he’s talking about retirement. Either UFC is going to pay him so much money that he’s going to fight, or he’s just going to retire. They told me they’re going to let me know at the end of November.”UFC CEO Dana White said he finds it hard to decline Volkanovski’s request but didn’t confirm that he’ll get his wish. If Gaethje does decide to hang up his gloves, Tsarukyan has no issue taking the Volkanovski fight instead.”Yeah, I would fight him,” Tsarukyan said. “I think it’s a good fight for me stylistically. He’s old, bad chin. He’s a tough opponent, but he’s a little bit old now and with me, it’s a perfect fight.”This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: Arman Tsarukyan says Justin Gaethje ‘trying to duck me,’ open to ‘perfect’ alternative
