Owen Cuffe joined the Colorado Rockies as their Arizona Complex League pitching and rehab coach in January of 2026. Purple Row has confirmed that on Tuesday, Owen Cuffe was officially promoted to Assistant Director of Pitching for the Colorado Rockies. Cuffe was originally on the Arizona Fall League pitching staff, but was removed upon his promotion.Cuffe previously served as a pitching and rehab coach for the ACL Rockies, having been hired in January 2026. “I help facilitate their throwing programs, the return to the mound, being able to help build them like pre-throw routines, and things to work on,” Cuffe said in September. “Also, some movement quality skill stuff to allow them to either get to those top-end velos more often, get healthier, sustain the innings that they’re going to log once they’re back in an affiliate and things like that.”It appears he will serve directly under Matt Daniels, who was hired as the Rockies Director of Pitching back in December. He has been cited as helping numerous players with pitch design.“Jack Mahoney (No. 15 PuRP), we dealt with a couple things with Jack where he had just a little inflammation, and we took the opportunity, ‘Okay, we’re gonna unplug you. We’re gonna get you down a lab and do some pitch design with Cuffe.‘ And man, how he navigated the Eastern League after that was just phenomenal,“ said director of player development Chris Forbes.Rockies left-hander Sean Sullivan, who is currently pitching in the AFL, also worked closely with Cuffe.“Right now, me and Owen Cuffe have been working on my slider, just kind of changing the shapes a little bit from more of like a sweeper to more of a traditional slider, and working and kind of tinkering different grips and stuff like that with my changeup, as well,” Sullivan said. Given that Alon Leichman will not return to the Rockies organization, Cuffe’s promotion suggests that the Rockies are beginning to put their new coaching staff in place. This is a developing story, and Purple Row will provide more information as it becomes available.Join the conversation!Sign up for a user account and get:Fewer adsCreate community postsComment on articles, community postsRec comments, community postsNew, improved notifications system!Download the SB Nation app on iOS or Android. Please keep in mind our Purple Row Community Guidelines when you’re commenting.
