If Oklahoma lets LaNorris Sellers play backyard football on Saturday, homecoming can turn into a long afternoon in a hurry.South Carolina’s quarterback is the reason the Gamecocks have been dangerous, and he is the reason this matchup is different from a normal pocket-passer week. Sellers comes into Norman off ranked wins over Florida and Tennessee, and he has the kind of physical profile that punishes soft edges and impatient rush lanes. He is listed at 6-foot-3, 240 pounds, with enough arm talent to drive the ball downfield and enough power as a runner to turn broken plays into chunk gains. This season he has completed 60.7 percent of his passes for 1,548 yards, 13 touchdowns, and five interceptions while adding 507 rushing yards and four scores on the ground. That is not a gadget dual-threat profile. That is a full-game problem. The arm is real. Sellers can push the ball 50 to 60 yards and force a defense to respect the deep shot. The bigger issue for Oklahoma is what happens when the first answer is not there. He runs with a heavy, downhill style that looks closer to a short-yardage back than a scrambler trying to sneak for six yards. If the edge opens, he will take it. If a rusher prioritizes a highlight sack over his lane, Sellers is big enough to run through the mistake. That is why Brent Venables’ front cannot treat this like a pure get-home week. The encouraging part for Oklahoma is that Sellers still gives defenses a chance if they stay disciplined. He can be a slow processor. He has a tendency to camp on the first read, wait for deep routes to clear, and hold the ball too long. That stalls his internal clock and creates the sack opportunities and turnover-worthy plays that show up when he gets pushed off schedule. In other words, he can beat you with talent, but he can also beat himself if the pocket gets messy and the coverage does not break first.Oklahoma has already seen both versions. In 2024, Sellers helped South Carolina win 35-9 in Norman, completing 16 of 24 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown while managing the day efficiently enough. In 2025, the Sooners flipped the script in Columbia with a 26-7 win and completely disrupted him: 124 passing yards, minus-9 rushing, and six sacks. That second tape is the blueprint. Not because Oklahoma can expect an exact repeat, but because it showed the formula. Crowd him. Hit lanes, not just the quarterback. Make him accelerate his decisions. The first rule for Saturday is edge discipline. Adepoju Adebawore and Taylor Wein set the tone here. If either one overruns the play or gets greedy upfield, Sellers gets the exact look he wants. The Sooners need a cage rush more than a free-for-all. Squeeze the pocket, keep him inside, and force him to beat the coverage with processing instead of freelancing into open grass.Sacks are great. Contain is required. The second rule is to cloud that first read. Since Sellers can lock in early, Venables should lean into the things his defense already does well: po
