RBL answer the call with back-to-back away winsThings can change quickly in football. Just a week ago, RB Leipzig were still searching for their first points away from home in the Bundesliga. Since then, the Red Bulls have followed up their home win over Elversberg with victories on the road against Essen in the cup and Schalke in the league, making it three wins in seven days.Saturday’s 2-0 victory in Gelsenkirchen was more than just a fitting end to a successful week. It was further evidence that our team are continuing to make progress.Have RBL turned the corner away from home?“The fact is, we want to do better away from home. We need to raise our energy levels and improve the standard of our performances,” insisted Christoph Baumgartner after the 4-0 home win over Elversberg eight days ago.And the team have certainly responded. In Tuesday’s DFB-Pokal tie away to Rot-Weiss Essen, our boys took Baumi’s words to heart in the second half. Despite difficult conditions and being a man down, they came from behind tosecure a 2-1 victory thanks to two goals from the Austrian. At Schalke on Saturday, the Red Bulls gradually took control after a somewhat sluggish start. Antonio Nusa put us ahead towards the end of the first half, and from there we were firmly in charge. A composed display was rounded off with a late second goal to seal our first Bundesliga away win of the season. So, are our away-day struggles finally behind us? “We’ll find out in our next away game,” said captain David Raum, who wasn’t getting carried away just yet.Another important step forwardThree games, three wins – as far as results go, it’s been a perfect week for the Red Bulls. RBL struggled to get going in the first halves against Elversberg and Essen, showing that the team are still working towards producing consistent performances over the full 90 minutes. In that respect, Saturday’s game in Gelsenkirchen was another step in the right direction. After taking some time to settle, Martín Demichelis’ men produced an assured display against the newly promoted side, preventing Schalke from creating any goalscoring opportunities and extending our unbeaten run against Bundesliga newcomers to 42 games.Maarten Vandevoordt enjoyed a quiet afternoon as he recorded his fourth Bundesliga clean sheet of the season. Leipzig have now registered five shutouts in total this term.Big Rom delivers from the startRômuloonce again played a major part in securing all three points on the road. Having scored twice against Elversberg the previous weekend, the Brazilian won the penalty that gave us the lead at Schalke, with Toni making no mistake from the spot. The striker then got on the scoresheet himself in the 78th minute, finishing off a pass from Nusa to put the result beyond doubt.“It’s just great playing alongside players like him. I love the quality he brings – we have a great connection both on and off the pitch,” said Big Rom, ful
