Louisville basketball’s De’Shayne Montgomery out 4-6 weeks with foot injury

Louisville basketball’s depth has taken another hit before the 2026-27 season tips off.The Cardinals on Nov. 2 announced senior guard De’Shayne Montgomery is expected to miss four to six weeks due to a foot injury.A 6-foot-4 transfer from Dayton, Montgomery averaged 10 points across 11th-ranked UofL’s two exhibitions. He went 8 for 11 from the field while totaling four rebounds, two assists and two turnovers in a combined 38 minutes during wins over No. 18 Kansas on Oct. 21 and Mercyhurst on Oct. 28.It was unclear at the time of publication when exactly Montgomery’s injury occurred. He logged only 16 minutes in the victory over the Lakers, checking out for the remainder of the game at the 4:30 mark of the second half. Montgomery is the second member of Pat Kelsey’s 2026-27 roster to suffer an injury before the season tipped off. Senior center Gabe Dynes is expected to miss at least four months while recovering from surgery on his right shoulder he underwent Oct. 27 — stemming from an issue that had been bothering him since at least late September. The injuries to Montgomery and Dynes leave Louisville with 10 available scholarship players. For two of those players, fifth-year transfers Seth Trimble and LJ Wells, their eligibility hinges on an ongoing lawsuit. They received some good news on that front Oct. 30, when a Kentucky Court of Appeals judge denied the NCAA’s request for an emergency stay while three of her colleagues review the case. This story will be updated.Reach Louisville men’s basketball reporter Brooks Holton at bholton@gannett.com and follow him on X at @brooksHolton.This article originally appeared on Louisville Courier Journal: Louisville basketball’s De’Shayne Montgomery out 4-6 weeks with foot injury
