49ers players react to Brandon Aiyuk filing for reinstatement

San Francisco 49ers players aren’t saying much about Brandon Aiyuk’s potential return to the team after the veteran wide receiver filed for reinstatement from the NFL’s reserve/left squad list.Christian McCaffrey, Nick Bosa and Fred Warner each offered brief reactions to the news, according to The Athletic’s Nick Wagoner. None of the three seemed particularly interested in weighing in on what Aiyuk’s next move could mean for him or San Francisco, although Bosa insinuated he’d welcome the disgruntled receiver back.”I don’t make any of those decisions, so it’s not on my radar,” McCaffrey said. “I just focus on my job. I haven’t thought about it.””Oh man. I don’t know. Not my place, really,” Bosa said. “I’ll dap him up. No hard feelings between me and him.””Yeah. I don’t know if I really have anything to say about it,” Warner said. “Kind of let that work itself out.”This more or less mirrors what right end George Kittle said this past offseason during Aiyuk’s public spats with the team. Kittle said the 49ers “have done a very good job throughout the entire process and have tried. [Head coach] Kyle [Shanahan] has tried, [general manager] John [Lynch] has tried, teammates have tried, and this is where we are.”Aiyuk was selected by the 49ers with the No. 25 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft and had been with the 49ers for all five seasons. He earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2023 after catching 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns. However, his relationship with the organization deteriorated following a contract dispute in 2024, followed by a significant knee injury in October 2024 that cost him all of the 2025 season before subsequent disagreements over his rehabilitation and contract kept him off the team. He hasn’t played since that injury, and the 49ers voided the guarantees on his contract last year before the conflict boiled over onto social media during the 2026 offseason. He’s been on the 49ers’ reserve/left squad list all year, but he could be on the move after filing for reinstatement. Aiyuk’s new agent, Drew Rosenhaus, has said the receiver is healthy and ready to play, with Aiyuk expected to report to the team’s facility Friday.General manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan have previously indicated that Aiyuk has played his last game in San Francisco, leaving the team to decide how to handle his contract and roster status. They can release him immediately, try to trade him, or perhaps keep him on the team and do nothing.49ers players, it seems, don’t have an opinion on Aiyuk’s fate either way.
