Smith acknowledges ‘petty’ claim about how Donald Trump has behaved since coming back to power as the President of the United States. After spending four years out of power following his big loss in 2020, Donald Trump returned for his second term as President of the United States in 2024. Things were going swimmingly for the Republican leader, but all that changed during the 2026 midterm elections. The Democrats enjoyed an incredible evening of results, winning a majority in the House as well as the Senate. Many analysts have suggested that Trump’s decisions and antics are behind this sweeping loss for his party. Stephen A. Smith, who has often straddled the line between right and left, also acknowledged what the POTUS got wrong.Stephen A. Smith agrees Donald Trump went on a ‘vengeance tour’ but also asks Democrats to take responsibilityOne undeniable fact about the American social and political fabric in recent years has been the obvious divide between people and their beliefs. Those on the right and those on the left have consistently moved further apart, and it has been a breeding ground for a lot of conflict and hatred.Trump has fanned those flames when it has been convenient for him. Stephen A. Smith tried giving a more bipartisan view on it while still acknowledging the president’s role.“You talked about America and how we don’t want the divide, we don’t want the chaos,” Smith said to former DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe. “You talk as if the Democrats had absolutely nothing to do with that. When you talk about his (Donald Trump’s) vengeance tour, I completely agree.“It’s petty, it’s excessive, it’s unnecessary. Totally true. Forgive the obvious, but what did the Democratic Party think was going to happen when you went after this man after he left office in 2020? His attitude is, ‘I wasn’t doing anything that the other politicians haven’t been doing all these years. I was just better at it. And these people tried to throw me in jail for the rest of my life.’“How come we couldn’t come up with some way to say, ‘We’ll leave you alone, just get out of the way, don’t ever run for office again.’ How come we couldn’t do that? Why not?”Smith’s takes so far have been quite down the middle politically. While he has suggested he would run for office as a Democrat, he seems to agree with the Republicans on plenty of matters, too. The NBA analyst truly has a lot going on at the moment.Read more:Lakers face fresh Bronny James roster questions after former No. 1 pick’s explosive criticismJason Whitlock accuses LeBron James of influencing Bryce’s role after Arizona debutLuka Doncic addresses his role in ejection of fan who had a heated exchange with a woman referee
