What happens in Las Vegas doesn’t always stay there, at least not when ESPN’s new docuseries sheds light on A’ja Wilson’s extraordinary 2025 campaign—arguably one of the greatest seasons in WNBA history. On Thursday, July 9, ESPN announced that Wilson will be featured in the six-part original series Life in the W, alongside Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier and Phoenix Mercury forward DeWanna Bonner. The show follows their on-court accomplishments and off-court lives throughout the 2025 season.
Wilson, Collier, and Bonner may make greatness look effortless, but Life in the W aims to reveal the challenging reality behind their success. The project is produced by LeBron James’ Uninterrupted in partnership with Cookie Jar & A Dream Studios, and it pulls back the curtain to showcase the hard work, sacrifices, joy, and sisterhood that accompany their paths to greatness. “A lot of people see what we do on the court, but this is a chance to show everything that comes with it: the work, the sacrifice, the joy and the sisterhood,” said Wilson, the league’s first four-time WNBA MVP. “I’m so proud to be part of this project and allow viewers to connect with who we are beyond basketball.”
The series, which also features Wilson, Collier, and Bonner, is set to debut on July 24 with its six installments. Wilson’s 2025 season was historic: she became the first player in either the WNBA or NBA to win the scoring title, the MVP award, Defensive Player of the Year, and Finals MVP in the same season. She helped forge a dynasty with her third WNBA championship in five years, a triumph sealed by a game-winning turnaround jumper over Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner with 0.9 seconds remaining in Game 3 of the Finals.
Collier’s 2025 campaign added another milestone to her already illustrious résumé. She joined an exclusive club as the second player in WNBA history to post a 50-40-90 season, finishing the regular year with a 50 percent field-goal percentage, a 40 percent three-point percentage, and a 90 percent free-throw percentage. Bonner, who re-signed with Phoenix midway through the season, played a crucial role in pushing the Mercury to the Finals.
Yet the series isn’t just about athletic achievement; it also spotlights the personal ecosystems that support these superstars. The first-look trailer released on Thursday underscores the importance of family and loved ones in their lives. Wilson is seen sharing a kiss with her boyfriend, Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo. Collier is shown sharing a meal with her husband, Alex Bazzell, and their daughter Mila. Bonner embraces her twin daughters, Cali and Demi. The trailer ponders a universal question: “Basketball is life-changing, but is it worth missing your family?” Bonner reflects in the footage. “Basketball has been such a big part of my life, but it’s only one part of who I am,” she notes in a statement. “This series shows the moments that matter most to me off the court too, especially the time I spend with my family. I’m grateful to share that side of my journey and give fans a look at what keeps me grounded throughout a long season.”
The 2025 season took place under the shadow of the 2020 collective bargaining agreement, which was the last one in effect before the WNBPA opted out in 2024 amid a period of unprecedented growth for the league. The season’s background further underscores the stakes at hand as players pressed for increased revenue sharing and more favorable salary structures during a year of high visibility and expanding opportunities for women athletes. Life in the W thus arrives at a moment when performance and progress intersect, offering fans a candid, behind-the-scenes look at three of the sport’s most influential stars as they navigate a season that has already earned its place in basketball history.
