Gairat Khasbiullin, who represents Khusanov, has now shed light on how close the Magpies came to securing the player who has since become a regular starter in City’s defense under the guidance of the club’s football director, Hugo Viana. While early reports at the time of Khusanov’s move linked Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain with potential interest, Khasbiullin’s account suggests that Newcastle were the only club to advance beyond light inquiry to substantive negotiations, with others not progressing to concrete talks.
