After failed monster trade for Brady Tkachuk, Vegas pivot to even bigger target!

The Vegas Golden Knights had their sights set on a massive offseason addition in Brady Tkachuk. They were among the finalists on the Ottawa captain’s shortlist of approved destinations, alongside the Carolina Hurricanes, Minnesota Wild, and Florida Panthers. But when the dust settled, it was Florida that landed the prize, reuniting the Tkachuk brothers in a deal that sent a haul of draft picks back to Ottawa.

Now, according to insider David Pagnotta, the Golden Knights may be shifting their attention to an even more significant acquisition: Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin.
The Tkachuk deal sent the No. 9 and No. 25 overall picks in the 2026 draft, a 2029 first-rounder, and a 2030 second-rounder to the Senators. Tkachuk waived his no-movement clause to make the trade happen after reportedly signaling he would not re-sign in Ottawa when his contract expires in two years.
With that door closed, Vegas appears ready to redirect its energy toward Larkin, who requested a trade from Detroit earlier this offseason. Larkin originally submitted a short list of preferred destinations that included the Golden Knights, the Wild, and the Panthers.

The competition for Larkin is fierce and getting more crowded. The Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars, and Utah Mammoth have all reportedly entered the conversation as potential landing spots. Both Minnesota and Florida are believed to have already put forward their strongest offers, but neither package has been enough to satisfy Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman. And Nick Kypreos recently suggested that Larkin had now a preference for Dallas.

The challenge is the enormous price tag. Larkin is signed through the 2030-31 season with a full no-movement clause, making him the kind of franchise center that almost never becomes available. Reports suggest Yzerman is looking for a first-round pick, a top prospect, and a young NHL-ready player in return.
That steep asking price has fueled speculation that a three-team trade structure might be the only way to get a deal across the finish line. In one scenario being discussed, a club like Dallas could funnel assets, potentially including winger Jason Robertson, back to Detroit as part of a broader arrangement.

Vegas was largely on the sideline during the Stanley Cup Final, where they fell to the Carolina Hurricanes in six games. With that chapter behind them, the Golden Knights are now reportedly in position to formally submit their offer for Larkin.
For now, the ball sits with Yzerman, and the entire league is watching to see which team can assemble a package big enough to pry Larkin out of Detroit.
